E-cigarettes don’t produce the main toxic chemicals that cigarettes do. Cigarettes produce both Carbon monoxide and tar but e-cigarettes don’t. The vapour does, however, produce some of the same harmful chemicals, but at much lower levels.

They are still a new device and it will need further studies of data before there are any conclusions on safety. However, according to the studies carried out so far they carry a much smaller fraction of the risk that cigarettes do.
